Design Science is a design-led technology studio that designs and builds software, digital products and systems around the realities of the people who use them.
We work with businesses that have outgrown the tools and processes that once worked for them, as well as people with ideas for digital products that don't exist yet.
Our role is to understand what is actually happening, identify where technology can make a meaningful difference, and build the right solution for the problem.
Design Science grew out of years of working inside a real, operating business. We've experienced what happens when a business grows faster than the systems supporting it.
The spreadsheets multiply, information becomes disconnected, people develop workarounds, and processes that once took minutes start taking hours.
Eventually, everyone knows something isn't working, but nobody has the time to step back and figure out what should replace it.
What we've also learned
Technology Isn't Always The Answer.
A beautifully designed system is useless if nobody uses it. Automation doesn't help if it simply moves a bad process somewhere else. And sometimes an existing tool works perfectly well and doesn't need to be replaced.
Understanding those distinctions is just as important as knowing how to build the technology itself.

Design Science is led by Rana Singh Sethi, a designer and software developer based in British Columbia, Canada with experience building technology both for clients and inside a real operating business.
His work has spanned product design, software development, automation, business systems and digital products. But much of the thinking behind Design Science came from seeing technology used inside a growing business firsthand.
Technology works best when it is designed around the realities of the people and businesses using it.
Design Science brings together design, software development and an understanding of how businesses actually operate to build technology that is useful, intentional and built to last.
